about us

Founded back in 2021, Second Chance Soles came about when three Gulliver Prep Middle School students began to explore how to turn a shared passion for sneakers into a force of positive change for the planet.

After researching the impacts that discarded shoes have on our planet, we decided that we could use the power of community to make a difference one pair of shoes at a time. At Second Chance Soles, we believe in the transformative power of a good pair of shoes. Our mission is twofold: to rescue gently-worn footwear from the fate of landfills and to provide these Second Chance Soles to individuals who need them most.

After its first year, Second Chance Soles collected, refurbished and donated nearly 150 pairs of shoes to communities in need. Shoes have been given a second chance here at home, helping Venezuelan migrants who have recently migrated to the U.S. and as far away as Africa, where shoes have been donated to children and adults in small remote villages.

What started as a community service project during middle school has evolved into a mission to breathe new life into lightly-used shoes and ensure they find their way to those in need. Under the leadership of Co-Founder Sebastian Piedra, Class of 2026, Second Chance Soles has continued its mission, expanding into the High School campus and enlisting new partners to collect more shoes each year. Less than two years after its creation, Second Chance Soles has collected and donated more than 500 pairs of shoes with hundreds more to come each year. We are committed to making a positive impact on both lives and the environment, one pair at a time.
